The Call

O Children, how tenderly I woo you,
how gently I call.
But you must be attentive and listening,
to hear me at all—

I Am all around you,
every minute of the day—
Speaking, but many times
your thoughts are far away.

Lost in the cares,
and anxiety of life,
when I would guide you to the left,
you turn to the right.

Much have you missed Me by unhearing ears.
Many have been your unnecessary tears.
I desire to guide you by a small still voice;
But whether you hear Me is by your own choice.

For I am speaking, uttering words of life.
Where your own ways only bring you strife.
Yea, only an attentive heart will hear;
In worship My council is made very clear.
